What is Daily Sunshine?

Daily Sunshine is a healthy 3-in-1 smoothie for kids that’s been designed specifically for their unique dietary needs. We know how hard it is to get kids to eat right, so our goal was to not only create a healthy snack you feel good about them having but also make an easy snack that they’ll actually ask for.

The Daily Sunshine smoothie comes in two flavors: smooth and creamy Chocolate and fruity and sweet Strawberry Banana. Each is made with organic fruits and vegetables,* organic pea protein, and healthy fats, and has 3 grams of fiber, probiotics from Bacillus coagulans, vitamins C & E, calcium, and vitamin D. Here is Daily Sunshine’s Strawberry Banana Nutrition Facts label and Daily Sunshine’s Chocolate Nutrition Facts label so you can check them out yourself!

In short, Daily Sunshine has carefully been formulated to include the building blocks of nutrition kids need to help them grow up healthy and strong, and 4 out of 5 pediatricians approve its formula.

The ingredients in Daily Sunshine differ slightly depending on which flavor you choose. But both the Chocolate and Strawberry Banana flavors have a fruit and veggie blend of apple, sweet potato, flaxseed, spinach, blueberry, acerola cherry, and strawberry.

We were just as careful about what we didn’t put in Daily Sunshine as what we did put in there. That’s why Daily Sunshine is soy-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO, and it contains NO artificial flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. Get Daily Sunshine here!

Why is Daily Sunshine for ages 4 and older?

The FDA established the general Recommend Daily Intake (RDIs) based on children and adults 4 years old and up. Daily Sunshine was designed with the needs of this group in mind. While Daily Sunshine is a food (like cereal, snack foods, almond milk, etc.), children under the age of 4 are considered infants and toddlers who have their own specific dietary needs.  Just like other food choices, parents should make their own decisions based on their unique child and information from their healthcare provider.

How many grams of sugar are in each serving?

There are 7 grams of sugar in Chocolate and 8 grams in Strawberry Banana. To put this into perspective, there are 14 grams of sugar in a banana and 19 grams of sugar in an apple. The 4 to 5 grams of naturally occurring sugar in Daily Sunshine comes from ingredients in the product, like fruit powders. That leaves 3 grams of added sugar from organic cane sugar. That’s 12 calories, or 3/4 of a teaspoon, which is only 6 percent of the Daily Value for added sugar.

Organic cane sugar is the third item on the ingredients list, so why does it also contain stevia?

Without stevia, which is a plant-based sweetener, Daily Sunshine would need to contain much more added sugar to deliver the same kid-approved taste! We made a conscious effort to keep added sugars low while satisfying the taste buds of our pickiest eaters. To learn more about why and how much organic cane sugar is in Daily Sunshine, check out this FAQ.

Is there caffeine in Daily Sunshine?

Chocolate Flavor Daily Sunshine has organic cocoa powder and natural chocolate flavor. Because caffeine is a constituent of cocoa and chocolate, Daily Sunshine may also have some caffeine — but in very small amounts. To put this into perspective, according to the USDA, a cup of hot chocolate (made from cocoa) contains five milligrams of caffeine, while a cup of brewed coffee contains 95 milligrams of caffeine.

If you have concerns about low levels of caffeine, you may want to use Strawberry Banana Flavor Daily Sunshine.

Where is the natural chocolate in Daily Sunshine derived from?

The natural chocolate flavor in Daily Sunshine is a secret recipe containing cocoa, vanilla bean extract, & other tasty ingredients – a delicious blend crafted for chocolate lovers!

Is it safe for kids with celiac disease or peanut/tree nut allergies?

Daily Sunshine meets the gluten-free definition set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which sets a gluten limit of less than 20 parts per million (ppm) for foods labeled “gluten-free.” This limit was established by the FDA since it stated that “most people with celiac disease can tolerate foods with very small amounts of gluten.”

In addition, there are no peanut or tree nut ingredients in Daily Sunshine, and we take significant precautions to prevent any nut-based ingredients from being included in the product.

Every lot of Daily Sunshine is tested for gluten to ensure the product meets this gluten-free standard. In addition, we follow strict FDA Good Manufacturing Practices in creating Daily Sunshine, which includes thorough cleaning and sanitation of all equipment and surfaces the product comes in contact with prior to producing Daily Sunshine.

However, because some consumers may have extremely sensitive reactions to major allergens, such as gluten or wheat, Beachbody wants to be as transparent as possible. This is why we include a statement which you see on many food products today — that Daily Sunshine is made in a plant that also processes eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, and wheat ingredients.

We do this so that anybody who has an extreme reaction to any of the listed ingredients should have as much information as possible, and if they have concerns, to first consult with their physician before trying a new product.

How do I make Daily Sunshine?

If you’re a busy parent you’ll love that Daily Sunshine smoothies are quick to prepare. Simply mix one serving with 8 fl. oz. water, shake it up, and you’ve got a healthy, gluten-free, dairy-free snack.

Will my kids like Daily Sunshine?

Sources say yes! Daily Sunshine has been rigorously taste-tested by the toughest critics… kids. We know how hard it is to help your kids eat healthy, which is why we worked hard to make Daily Sunshine a healthy smoothie that has a taste that’s kid-approved!

Daily Sunshine was designed to help curb junk food cravings with fiber and 10 grams of protein. Kids can enjoy it in the mornings on the way to school, as part of their lunch, as an after-school snack, or even between soccer practice and music lessons.

Daily Sunshine vs Shakeology. What’s the difference?

Daily Sunshine provides key nutrients in a simple yet healthy formula designed for young, growing bodies. Shakeology focuses on providing an array of exotic superfoods, adaptogens, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, and other important nutrients for adult bodies. While they both have unique ingredients, Daily Sunshine and Shakeology contain some overlapping essential ingredients, but at different levels, in order to suit the nutritional needs of kids and adults.

Can I drink both Daily Sunshine and Shakeology?

Absolutely! If adults like to enjoy Shakeology as a part of a healthy breakfast or as a mid-morning snack, it’s OK to treat themselves to Daily Sunshine as a healthy afternoon snack or late-night munchie killer.

Is it OK to mix Daily Sunshine with Shakeology?

We don’t recommend mixing Daily Sunshine and Shakeology into one shake. The reason is because these products were designed to be prepared individually and are not intended to be mixed with other Beachbody Nutritional products, including our Beachbody Performance line.

Why does Shakeology count as 1 red container, while Daily Sunshine counts as ½ green, ½ purple, and ½ red?

Shakeology contains between 16 to 17 grams of protein and between 140 to 170 calories per serving depending on the flavor. This makes it perfect for one red container. It also contains a vast array of other nutrients, but given how wide-ranging and exotic they are, they don’t fit as neatly into a specific container. Daily Sunshine, on the other hand, contains less protein (10 grams), so ½ red makes sense. It also contains the equivalent of a full serving of fruits and vegetables.* Because this is done using a combination of both types of produce, the most accurate representation is ½ purple and ½ green.

How can I buy Daily Sunshine?

We’ve got you covered as far as sizes go. There’s a 30-day supply bag, a box of 24 single-serve packets—single flavor as well as 12 of each flavor, and a 4-serving Sampler Pack (2 of each flavor). Get Daily Sunshine here!

*Concentrated powder equivalent to 1 full serving of fruits and vegetables, ⅝ serving of fruit ((Chocolate — 4.45 g dried apple, strawberry, and blueberry powders) (Strawberry Banana — 4.5 g dried apple, strawberry, banana, and blueberry powders)) and ⅜ serving of veggies (1.95 g dried sweet potato and spinach powders) per smoothie. Each 28 g serving (1 scoop) provides the equivalent of ½ cup fruits and vegetables (volume before drying).

Meet Shift Shop Super Trainer, Chris Downing

Shift Shop forces you to think differently about your goals and your potential.  Sure, your body will change — but that’s simply the icing on the cake compared to the shifts in your thinking that can happen when you go all in with the Shop. Chris shares how out of the lowest point in his life, came a defining moment where he literally spoke his new life into existence.  What happened after that defining moment will blow you  away.  I  really encourage you to listen to this interview because we think there is great wisdom here for everyone — whether you do the Shift Shop program or not.

“Before Beachbody, I was training athletes in my gym. I had up to 3 million views on my YouTube videos and people were watching them in 215 countries. As a result of that, I started receive offers for endorsements. That’s what I really wanted. My dream was always to become a trainer for Nike. Everything was going great, and then I got in trouble.

I was convicted of a felony drug possession for something I didn’t do. Basically, a package full of drugs was delivered to my son’s mom’s house and the police believed I was responsible for it. It had my son’s mom’s name on it, so they said if neither of us admitted to it, they’d take her since her name was on it. At that point, I claimed responsibility for it to make sure she didn’t get in trouble.

They took me to the police station and grilled me about who sent the package and I told them over and over again that I didn’t know. The narcotics team at the police department wanted to make an example of me since I was a public figure, so they booked me and held me there until I bailed myself out about 8 hours later. I had to go to court the next morning and it was an absolute circus. At that point, people had found out about it, so there were tons of people from the community there and members of the media.

I really got beat up by the members of my own community at that point. People were sending hate mail and disowning me for something I didn’t do. They said the police needed to make an example of me since I worked with kids, and they said they knew I couldn’t have been that successful just owning two gyms. I didn’t blame them because that’s how things seemed if you believed only what you read in the media. I had to give my community the benefit of the doubt just knowing that they didn’t know the whole story. I could have handled all of that, but when my daughter started to get bullied in school, that’s when I really had a problem with it.

My daughter started acting out and blaming me for everything that was going on. One day, I discovered she hadn’t done her laundry before leaving for her grandmother’s house for the weekend, that was a rule of mine. So, I called her and told her she had to get back home and finish the laundry before she was allowed to be at her grandma’s house. She ignored me and we fought. I told her I was going to come get her car and she’d be grounded, and that was it.

Once we hung up, she went straight to the drug store and bought a bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol. She went back to her grandma’s house and locked herself in the bathroom with the water running… told her grandma she was taking a bath. Not long after that, her grandfather got home from work and went upstairs and knocked on the bathroom door. No answer. He went back downstairs for a moment and asked her grandma when she started taking baths. They both thought it was weird since they had only ever seen her take showers. He went back upstairs and cracked the door a little bit. That’s when he saw her hands draped over the bathtub. She had taken 30 Extra Strength Tylenol.

It was very scary there for a little bit, but she did finally make it through and fully recover. But for me, the criticism only got worse from there. People blamed me for her suicide attempt. Told me I was a bad father. Whenever I would visit her, they always had security watching me. It just crushed me.

One day I was getting home from visiting her and as I was pulling into the driveway, I got a call from the guy, a good friend of mine, who had been editing my YouTube videos… the ones that were getting so much attention online. He told me that he could no longer manage my YouTube content. Because of everything I was going through, he didn’t want to be affiliated with me anymore. I told him I understood and we hung up.

At this point, I had been sentenced to 3 years probation, with a minimum of 3 years in jail if I mess up. My daughter is in the hospital after a suicide attempt, and I’ve basically lost all of my clients. I was just numb.

The next day, I looked in my bank account. I had been saving money for a while, so I had about 20 thousand dollars in there. I jumped in the car and went and bought all the equipment for shooting and editing video. I had absolutely no idea how to do any of that. All I knew was how to turn the camera on. Back at the house I started unloading boxes and boxes of equipment and my son’s mom was looking at me like I was nuts. When she saw the receipt and realized I’d spent 18 thousand dollars on everything, she was livid.

I took her criticism on the chin, headed down to the basement and called a local director friend of mine. I asked him if he’d be willing to put some feelers out and see if there was someone who would be willing to come to my house a couple days a week and teach me how to use it. He found someone and the guy came over twice a week and showed me how to use everything.

Now here’s the deal. At this point, my daughter is out of the hospital, but hates my guts. The community is still totally crushing me, and my business is in shambles. My friends turned their backs on me. I was basically just in the basement, in my man cave, hiding out from the rest of the world. I sat there and thought about my uncle. He was the only person I could think of that would have been able to pull me out of this slump. He could have given me the tough love and motivation I needed to get through it, but he had passed away. That’s when the guilt hit me. I sat there and thought about how I had killed my uncle’s dream for my future. Everything he said I could be as a trainer, I just ruined it. The guilt was so overwhelming, I just sat there and cried.

Out of nowhere, I had a thought come across my mind….”

Healthy Benefits of Nuts

Are you crazy about NUTS?

Admittedly, I am.  I love nuts!  And, I know that there is a lot of nutrition value associated with nuts.  However, I have never really done the research myself.  I have just always been told, “Nuts are good for you.”  And, I don’t always believe everything I am told, but in this case I know it’s true.  I don’t just love nuts for their nutritious value, I love nuts because they taste great and I honestly like the way they crunch when I eat them!

We eat a lot of nuts in our house.  Not only do I love them but my husband does and my kids do as well.  We love all kinds of nuts and we keep a nice variety stocked in our pantry.  They are easy to grab on the go, they make an easy (and nutritious) snack, they add nicely to salads and other dishes.  Yes, we like nuts!

I decided to do a little research, just to firm up what I already know about nuts.  But, I thought other people might benefit from what I learn.  So here are the quick details about some of the Corum Crew’s favorite nut options:

ALMONDS High in monounsaturated fats (those are the good fats!), magnesium, and vitamin E.  They are alkalizing to the system when eaten raw and soaked in water.  Huh?  That means, and this is good, when your body is in a healthy alkaline balance then germs are less likely to get a foothold.  Eat almonds!

WALNUTS Great for brain power and heart health.  They are high in omega-3s, and they help to heal imbalances caused by acidic, inflammatory foods.  My husband has a slight allergy to walnuts…poor him!

CASHEWS Oh…One of our real favorites!  They contain 0 (that’s ZERO) cholesterol.  Cashews are loaded with magnesium which helps diminish the frequency of migraines, improves cognitive ability, and lowers blood pressure.  A handful of cashews a day is said to keep depression at bay!  Also, cashews contain (ok this is a really long word and I can’t even begin to pronounce it!) proanthocyanidins, a flavanol that inhibits the ability of cancer cells to divide and multiply, reducing incidences of colon cancer.  And, another benefit of cashews is that you can soak them and puree them to use as a natural thickener for soups, stews and sauces!

PECANS As a native Texan, this really is the BEST of the nut varieties.  Guess what the state tree is for Texas?  Yup!  The Pecan Tree!  They are a rich source of energy which help to protect the body from diseases, cancers and infections.  They are loaded with vitamin E, plus vitamin B-complex, magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron, and potassium.

PINE NUTS These little meaty-flavored nuts help diminish appetite and balance hormones.  High in protein and amino acids, pine nuts are an excellent source of B vitamins.  They also boost energy, reduce heart disease risk, provide anti-aging antioxidants (really!), and improve vision health   And, they grow on pine trees!  You find the nuts between the scales of pine cones.

MACADAMIA These are native to Australia and they are delicious, but can be a bit expensive.  Another nut that boosts energy, macadamia nuts also provide 23% of daily recommendation levels of dietary fiber.  They are also used widely in gluten-free food formulations.  These sweet refreshing nuts provide essential minerals, vitamins, and heart-friendly good fatty acids.

In short, it’s okay to be a little nutty!  Not only do they provide great health benefits, but nuts taste great!  There you have it!  Nuts are a good thing!  I want to share a nut filled recipe I think you will enjoy as much as my Corum Crew does!

Nutty Texan Living in Colorado Trail Mix

½ Cup Raw Almonds

¼ Cup Raw Walnuts

½ Cup Raw Cashews

½ Cup Raw Pecans

¼ Cup Raw Pine Nuts

¼ Cup Raw Macadamias

1 Cup Unsweetened Organic Coconut Flakes

½ Cup Unsweetened Organic Dried Cherries

½ Cup Unsweetened Organic Dried Cranberries

½ Cup Raw Organic Pumpkin Seeds

½ Cup Raw Shelled Sunflower Seeds

1 Cup Dark Chocolate Chunks

½ Tsp Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

1 Tbs Liquid Coconut Oil

½ Tsp Cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Combine all nuts and seeds together in a large bowl, add coconut, salt, coconut oil and mix well. Spread out over a baking pan.  Toast in oven for about 10 minutes, keeping a close watch so the mixture does not over toast or burn.  Remove from oven and cool completely.   Dump nuts and seeds into a large bowl and add dried cherries and cranberries, dark chocolate chunks and sprinkle with cinnamon.  Mix well.  Hit the trail!

I hope this information on the benefits of nuts will be as helpful to you as it has been for me and my family!  And, be sure and try our trail mix recipe and let me know what you think!

Happy Spring to you!

What are your Kids having for Lunch?

What are your kids having for lunch?

What’s for LUNCH?  Let’s start thinking differently about how we are feeding our kids!

Are you paying attention to what your kids are eating for lunch?  Do you prepare a lunch at home for them to take to school or are they purchasing a meal from their school cafeteria?  There are pictures circulating around the internet comparing a school lunch from the USA to other countries.  And, the photos are pretty startling.  If you think about the average restaurant here in our country and the portions they serve, along with the options available, then you probably won’t be surprised to see what may appear in the lunch line at the school cafeteria.

I would say this is actually pretty typical for an American kid…chicken nuggets with ketchup, along with some potatoes, a green vegetable, fruit cup and let’s not forget the cookie!  But, when you compare what kids from other countries are eating you might be surprised to discover the difference in nutrition of what they are eating compared to our kids.

I can’t believe kids from other countries are deprived of a cookie for lunch!  (Sarcasm!  Sorry, but not sorry!)

Our kids are in school on average for about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week.  School requires a lot from our children.  A good nutritious meal in the middle of the day is a requirement.  Nourishing our students with fresher, greener and more nutrient rich foods will provide them with more focused energy, better growth potential, immune system boosters and mental clarity.

Unfortunately, our food system is dominated by unhealthy, artificially enhanced processed “stuff” and our children are consuming it!  Childhood obesity continues to grow rapidly and we are not seeing enough change.  This will lead to long term health consequences that will not only shorten their lives but give them a lives dominated by risks, higher health costs and emotional pain. This absolutely breaks my heart.

We have to put a stop to this now.  It really is about educating ourselves as parents and our children.  If we all pay a little more attention to what we are feeding our kids and the types of foods they have access to when they are not directly in our care, then we can make a difference.  We must teach our children about nutrition so they are equipped  to make better choices when they are not with us. If you start now with your younger children they will understand and are more likely to choose healthier foods.   Sure, it takes a little more planning and preparation, but aren’t our kids worth it?  And you are worth it too!

Our kids are in middle school and high school.  So, in our home, we prepare lunches.  We pack a protein, a carb, a vegetable, a fruit and a snack.  My kids know our expectations and we understand that sometimes they want a treat.  We include them in the preparation.  It’s all in MODERATION.  Are their lunches perfect?  No, but there is a daily conscious effort to ensure that their lunch is balanced and nutritious.

My kids know that we read ingredient labels.  Our rule is if the label has more ingredients than you can count with a glance or if you cannot pronounce any of the ingredients, then Mom and Dad are probably not going to buy it.  They enjoy shopping with us and they look to find healthier alternatives that we may agree to try.  In fact, sometimes we find items in the cart that we are removing at the checkout line.  Yes, they try and sneak some snacky junk in when we aren’t paying attention.  And, we do give in every now and then!  Not often, but sometimes.

There really are a lot of options out there if you take the time to look or research.

Small changes add up over time. Here are some easy lunchbox swaps you can make to boost the health of your kiddos.

  • Instead of chips try adding veggies + hummus or a slice of cheese. veggie + peanut butter (or almond butter)
  • Instead of cookies, pack a piece of fruit or protein bar (Have you tried RX Bars?  Simply made and delicious.  Check them out!)
  • Instead of pudding, add yogurt. (maybe add granola too)
  • Instead of candy,  add some nuts, small pieces of dark chocolate and dried fruit. (healthy trail mix)
  • Kids who don’t like sandwiches? Try hard boiled eggs or lunch meat rollups instead. Cottage cheese is a good protein too.

Another idea is to invest in a quality thermos so you can send heated leftovers or soup to school.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to START taking steps in a new direction for better health.  Your kids might revolt if you revamped their entire lunch bag overnight. Younger kids, you may have a better shot on changing things up now.

Involve them–get them to choose their healthy swaps for the week!  Just remember, those small changes have big health impacts!

Happy Health!!  Happy Family!!

The Ultimate Reset, Time to Focus

The Ultimate Reset

You know what always amazes me?  How quickly the days on the calendar pass by.  We are already near to the end of February.  So far 2017 has brought us challenges and successes.  If you remember, my word for the year is FOCUS!  This truly is the word for me.  I find that there are things that try and pull my attention away from my goals and my opportunities.  And, as a mom and a wife, sometimes my focus turns to caring for my family which certainly takes priority of most anything else that is on my agenda.  Right now there are situations with my family that are requiring a lot of my attention.  That just means that the FOCUS I put on my goals and opportunities becomes much more important.

I am finding that we can never get too comfortable.  When we allow routine to become our lifestyle we miss out on what our calling may be.  One of my prayers must be allowing God to make sure that I don’t get too comfortable or too content.  I need to be challenged and so does my family.  So this prayer is not just for me but for my family as well.  That doesn’t mean that I want God to create constant upheaval in our household because that is certainly not the case.  I want peace but I also want God to be active in my life and in the lives of each of my family members.  God has a plan and His plan is GOOD.  We may not always recognize it, but it is so true.

God works on each of us differently.  He is constantly molding us to become just the person who He desires us to be.  But, we have responsibility to continue seeking His will and guidance.  Sometimes we need to reset.  When we have become too comfortable or too content, it’s time to FOCUS our attention back on our creator.  God has a way of getting our attention.  We must recognize when He is calling.  My husband is currently going thru a reset.  God has his full attention.  A reset will look differently for each us.  I do believe a reset involves your mind, body and spirit.

I am a true believer in counseling.  And, it doesn’t matter how well you are or how healthy, counseling can provide you with clarity.  A good listener will help you process through issues and problems you are facing as well as give you guidance even when your life is in order and prosperous.  Our minds are very complicated and it’s okay to seek help from a professional who will help you sort out all of the stuff that may have you feeling clouded.

Our bodies are given to us care for while we are here on earth.  There are so many temptations when it comes to making food choices.  Even the healthiest of people may struggle with eating appropriately.  Your physical well being contributes to your overall health so it’s important to eat right and maintain an exercise regime that will keep your body in good shape.

Leaning in close to God, especially during a time when you are going through a reset, will provide you an opportunity to be led toward God’s desires for your life.  Taking time to FOCUS on your relationship with Jesus through study of His word, worship and prayer is important everyday, but even more important while resetting.

I want to challenge each of you to take a good look at your lives.  Are you FOCUSed on achieving your goals and dreams?  Are you in tune with your relationship with Jesus Christ?  Do you find yourself feeling too comfortable and too content?  Are you living up to your full potential?  Now is the time to take inventory of what’s going on in your mind, how your body is feeling and how your spirit is leading you.  Spring is a time for rebirth and it may be a time to reset.

Beachbody offers an incredible 21 day program to help you improve your energy, lose weight and get back on track to better health.  The Ultimate Reset can help you gently restore your body to its optimal “factory settings”, to help you feel energized, enjoy better digestion, lose weight, and reclaim your overall health.  As part of his reset process, my husband Tim, will be starting the Beachbody Ultimate Reset program on March 1st, to complete just in time for the arrival of spring!  Would you consider joining Tim for this challenge?  It’s been 4 years since Tim last completed this program and let me tell you the results were astounding!  And, Tim felt great and refreshed after 21 days.  I know you will too!  I will help you get started and the Ultimate Reset comes with everything you need to complete this refresh successfully.

If you need accountability and support you will have it.  Spring will be here in 25 days!  Jump on this opportunity now.
