Quiet Time with God: Scripture Writing Challenge

I am so excited to walk with you on this spiritual journey.

You know I’m passionate about physical fitness, but I also have a passion for SPIRITUAL fitness and I’m super excited to share a new resource with you that my mom and I created.

Almost two years ago, I started a daily Scripture writing practice to help me spend time each day in God’s word. As a busy mom of three, finding time to sit down and have a daily time with the Lord has always been a challenge. My husband and I have always been faithful church goers, talked with our kids about God and His Truth—and trust me—my prayer life was (and is) active but I always felt like I was missing something by not physically opening God’s word and reading it on a daily basis.

Are we all busy? Yes! Is it hard to find five to 10 minutes a day to sit down and open God’s word? Yes. Hard, but not impossible!

Listen to my heart here: The BIBLE is not just a best-selling book; it’s our guide for every aspect of our lives. It is living and active and has the power to transform us from the inside out. It’s the truth of our identity. It’s the power source of every decision we make in life. It’s literally fuel for our souls!

My daily Quiet Time with God Scripture Writing Challenge is a simple way to get yourself  back into God’s word and takes about five minutes each day. Every month, I’ll share a new set of daily verses for you to look up, read, and write out. It’s really only a verse or two and doesn’t take long at all. Find a cute journal—or just a plain piece of paper—and start writing these verses during your time with God. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you as you read, write, and meditate on the verses. You may even want to read a verse or two before or after, it’s totally up to you. This tool is to get you into the practice of opening your bible and letting God’s Truth sink into your hearts and minds.

While reading a daily verse or devotional on Facebook is great, there is something amazing and transformative that happens when you make opening God’s Word a priority in your life!

TRUST me, the enemy of your soul wants to keep you busy with a myriad of things to distract you and pull you away from GOD. Believe me, my family is living proof that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. However, my FAITH, my TRUST, and time spent READING God’s word are what brings clarity and hope and peace to my heart during the toughest days.

My prayer for you: God, thank you for this amazing gift of the Bible. It’s not just a book; it’s your truth as a guide for us to live by daily. Help us to follow your will and to return to you each day. Lord, we ask you to fill our heart and soul with direction, wisdom, and truth. Help us to prioritize our time well and make us turn to your word for each decision. We do not know what tomorrow brings, but You do. We trust you to prepare our path. We love you, Lord. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Are You Powerless?

Reclaim your power from withinAre you powerless?

Do you use phrases like:  “I can’t…”  “I don’t…”  “I’m not…”  “How come I…”  “Why did…”  ?

These phrases are called powerless language.  Sentences, about ourselves, that begin with words like these often take the power out of our capabilities.  We all have struggles and there are certainly things that we have difficulty with or create a challenge for us.  But, if we allow our challenges to DEFINE who we truly are, then we are in a sense giving up on ourselves.   We are letting our fears and our anxieties be the defining force of how we see ourselves and how others see us as well.  We also become victims to the power that we give to our inner fear.  It becomes too easy for us to say we can’t do something rather than giving it a try or to place blame on others when things don’t work out the way we expected.  If you feel powerless know that you are not alone.  Life has a way at throwing things at us that can overwhelm even the most confident, bold and extraordinary of personalities.

I want to share with you the ABC’s of affirming who you are and 7 WAYS to help you take back the power to believing in yourself.  I want to see you develop a positive mindset that will not only boost your confidence but give you the POWER to take control of your emotions, your dreams and your strengths!

A–AWARE Be aware of your capabilities!

B–BELIEF Believe in yourself!

C–CONTROL Take control of your actions, emotions and goals!

  1. GOD’S WORD What better place is there to find answers about ourselves than in God’s word.  Take time daily to spend with God in prayer, seeking His direction for your life.  Listen to what He has to say about you and feel His love as you take time to worship with Him

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY Find an accountability partner, who you trust, that you are able to share your struggles with.  Give them permission to challenge you, but to also encourage you to be the person God designed you to be.

  1. JOURNAL Write out your goals and your ambitions.  But, also write about the thoughts and feelings you have about yourself.  And, when you recognize a lie, denounce it in writing.  Celebrate accomplishments.

  1. TAKE CHANCES Turn the “I can’t” into “I can” and “I will”!  Explore activities you have never tried before and give yourself the opportunity to develop a passion for something new and different in your life.

  1. MAINTAIN POSITIVE ENERGY Escape the negativity that brings you down.  Sometimes we even have to separate ourselves from friends or family members who rob us of positivity and recognize, without guilt, that it’s okay to move away from relationships that may be harming you internally.

  1. Affirmations You are a child of God and you are loved and you are good!  Change your mindset about the way you may feel about yourself.  Scripture clearly gives us the knowledge of who we truly are in God’s eyes.  Write them down and read them out loud about yourself daily.

  1. HELP OTHERS You are not perfect and neither am I.  In fact there are a lot of imperfect people around!  As I said, we all have struggles and some of us may have needs that only others can provide.  Give of yourself and your time to come along someone else who really needs you or what you have to offer.

Take back the power that has been robbed from you by FOCUSING on YOU!  Put more energy in how you feel about where you want to be and less on where you used to be!

Daily affirmations:

I am a child of God.  Gal 3:26

I am fearless.  Isaiah 43:5

I am mighty in His power.  Eph 6:10

The joy of the Lord is my strength.  Neh 8:10

I will act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with my God.   Micah 6:8

Why I Love Monday’s

Monday's are the Best

I Love Mondays, and So Can You!

5 Tips for Making Mondays- “Mindful, Motivational, Meaningful, Melodious & Methodical”

I love Monday’s.  Yes!  I do love MY Monday’s.  It’s the first day of the work week.  A day to start fresh.  Monday is a day full of possibilities. I believe that Monday is a day to get you excited to relish the opportunity for all that is possible for the rest of the week in front of you.  Here are a few tips that I have adopted to make sure I welcome the beginning of the week with the right frame of mind.

Mindset Monday

It’s about attitude, positive attitude that is.  If you begin your week with a positive mindset you are setting the tone for your week.  “Start off well, end well.”  I am also a big believer in positive affirmations.  In fact, I have my list hanging right on my bathroom mirror.  When I am brushing my teeth first thing in the morning I am reminded of all the things that bring meaning to who I am.

Motivated Monday

Get with it!  Get up and get ready!  Take your positive attitude and motivate yourself by doing a workout and getting your blood flowing.  A positive mindset will help boost your cellular energy level to help you feel motivated to accomplish a pattern of exercise.  An early workout routine is best for getting your body ready for the day so you feel like you can conquer the world!

Meaningful Monday

Give your Mondays meaning!  Open a book…not just any book…the Book!  Spending time in God’s word will not only give meaning to your Monday but meaning to your life.  Meditating on scripture allows you to build relationship with your creator.  And, all of life’s lessons can be found in the Bible.  Yes, our instruction book to life is God’s word!  If that doesn’t give you meaning I don’t know what will!

Melodious Monday

Be joyful!  If you are dreading Monday then you will steal the joy out of Sunday!  Everyday that you wake up and still have breath you should feel gratitude.  Life is short!  We only have one opportunity to live life.  Make the most out of it with a joyful and grateful heart.

Methodical Monday

Have a plan!  Decide what you need to accomplish.  Write it down and and conquer!  If you have a “method for your madness” you are more likely to get the things done that you have planned.  Monday is your opportunity to plan for the week.  Take action by setting priorities, goals and objectives for your week ahead.

One big thing I have learned about life is that it’s very difficult to manage time.  We have to be managers of ourselves.  When I learned to self manage I became more productive and focused to really accomplish my objectives.  And, when you can start your week off being mindful, motivated, meaningful, melodious, and methodical you will be in a much better position to manage yourself and others.

I want you to love YOUR Mondays!  In fact, I want you to love everyday of the week because each has so much opportunity to offer you!

  Joyfully, Shanna

One Word Concept

One Word Concept

Resolutions?  Let’s all make promises to ourselves that we know we really aren’t going to keep.  Yeah, it’s January 2017 so it’s time to make our resolutions for the year.  No Thank You!

Yes, I used to be guilty like most people of saying on December 31st or January 1st that I was going to do something…eat better, go to the gym more, set a budget…whatever it was, only to get a couple of weeks into the year and give up.

I really wanted change.  The new year is a time for change, a fresh beginning.  But, how could I set out to accomplish something that even I knew I was likely to give up on.  You see, those ideas that we resolve to do for the sake of accomplishing something that may not be realistic are based on the type of person we have become tired of being rather than the one true person who God wants us to become.  The reality is that resolutions are typically broken then they leave us with a sense of guilt for not being able to accomplish them.  Who wants that?

There is nothing wrong with desiring a fresh start or wanting to change something about ourselves.  We all want growth and certainly the start of a new year is a natural time to make changes.  What if we took these feelings and we turned them over to God?  I believe God wants BIG things for us.  He wants us to come before Him and seek His wisdom and His guidance.

A couple years back I was introduced to the “My One Word” concept.  One word?  Really, how do you apply a list of desires and hopes to ONE word?  It really is simple, believe it or not.  Choosing one word gives you clearer direction but still allows you to focus on multiple desires.

Pastor Mike Ashcroft and Rachel Olsen, who co-authored the book “My One Word”, developed a 3 step process to help you go about picking a word:

Step 1:  Determine the kind of person you want to become

The first step is to simply take some time and decide what kind of person you want to be at the end of this year.  This goes beyond simply healthier and wealthier, but is must drive deep into your soul.  What about the condition of your heart?  What about the person that God, Himself, has created you to be?

Step 2:  Identify the characteristics of that person

Get a picture of that person and then simply identify their major characteristics.  Is that person gentle?  Is that person generous?  What are the qualities of the person you want to become?

Step 3:  Pick a word

One you have a list of characteristics, simply pick a word.  There might be 15 things that you want to change, but you must resist the temptation to promise you will do them all.  Instead, simply commit to ONE WORD!

Remember, that praying for God’s direction will help you to determine what one word He is placing on your heart.  Always, allow Him to lead!  Once God has given you your word share it with others, find biblical scripture that brings additional meaning to it, and meditate on it daily to bring clarity and direction to how God is working in your life.
